Nourish Your Skin with Nutraceuticals
Nourishing the skin and preserving youthful looks aren’t limited to topical treatments anymore. More consumers are understanding the connection between nutrition and beauty and there are now many specific diets out there that encourage you to eat a host of wholesome ingredients to beautify your skin or improve a skin condition. I tried a few of these and even started using a smoothie maker but I just couldn’t bring myself to drink a glass full of the green sludge I had concocted. So, I investigated other methods to ensure I was consuming nutrients that would help improve my fast-advancing appearance of wrinkles and began to look at food supplements. There has certainly been an increase in the use of food supplements to assist and improve various skin conditions with collagen being the most popular choice to improve the appearance of wrinkles. There are a few products with a couple of ingredients such as collagen and hyaluronic acid that market themselves as anti-aging therapies. Then we move into the market where the term neutraceutical is more often used and that’s to combine a host of key nutrients into one tablet.
What are Nutraceuticals?
The term “nutraceutical” is the combination of two words, nutrient and pharmaceutical and is often concentrated in a pill, liquid, powder or capsule.
Nutraceutical is a general term used to describe any product derived from food sources that offer health benefits in addition to the basic nutritional value provided through diet. They have been identified as non-specific biological therapies for prevention and treatment of various beauty concerns and in some cases health concerns. The use of nutraceuticals aims at tackling body related issues by providing key nutrients that may be missing from the diet or may not be consumed in the appropriate quantities.
Uses of Nutraceuticals
Various studies have proven that specific nutraceuticals are beneficial for promoting overall well-being and optimizing the cosmetic appearance of skin. The consumption of omega oils such as cod liver oil has long been known to improve health issues including joint functions, cardiovascular diseases and hypertension. Nutraceuticals are also being rigorously evaluated for their potential skin health benefits like improving skin conditions such as eczema & psoriasis where vitamins A and E feature heavily in combination with other nutrients. This category of nutraceuticals is more medical based whereas those seeking to improve the appearance of aging skin have cosmetic claims. However, medical advice should be sought for persistent or any worrying skin conditions.
Most Common Anti-Aging Ingredients in Nutraceuticals
A thorough investigation of the properties of nutraceuticals for skin rejuvenation has led to the identification of an array of nutrients most effective for anti-aging purposes. Vitamin E is a notable supplement which can be effectively consumed through a healthy diet, avocados being a great source of vitamin E, but not everyone wants to consume an avocado each day. I find avocado delicious on toast topped with chopped fresh tomatoes however, I often tend to either buy an avocado that’s not ripe and so not easily spreadable or forget about it until it’s too mushy to use so my consumption of age fighting vitamin E is not always consumed in the correct quantity.
There is a new trend for preparing your own bone broth by stewing animal bones for hours to extract the collagen then drinking the broth. This is rather time-consuming and drinking it may not be so tempting although it could be made into a soupy meal (again all to do with how much time you have).
Anti-Aging Food Supplement
REMY Skincare’s first product line, Replenish My Skin, combines the mostreportedly effective nutrients that contribute to reducing fine lines and wrinkles. They include, marine collagen, CoQ10, zinc plus vitamins C and E and a fabulous yet not well-known ingredient of pine bark extract. (I’ll blog more about this later and reveal it wonders!)
Food Supplement For The Perimenopause
Our second product line has roused great interest from fellow ladies of similar age to me, late 30’s, okay early 40’s and onward to ladies in their 50’s which is our menopausal support products Rebalance My Skin, this aims to rebalance the effects of hormonal changes and reduce the impact they have on the skin by providing nourishment from the inside and out. Our skin still benefits from collagen supplementation, zinc and vitamins C and E but also benefit from an ingredient similar to estrogen, a phytoestrogen called genistein, which gently eases the effects that decreasing levels of estrogen have on our bodies and together with the other ingredients, particularly the epithelial cells of the skin (there will be more information about the wonders of genistein too).
Nutrients for Healthy Skin
So we could get stewing those animal bones to make a bone broth to extract the collagen and ensure we eat an array of nuts, seeds, fruit and vegetables every day and this latter part I do encourage you to do, but to ensure we don’t miss out any vital nutrients from our diet to support healthy skin growth and renewal or for those days when eating a balanced diet is just not going well, a more convenient way is to supplement the diet and ensure the essential nutrients that support healthy skin are consumed each day.
That is where REMY's combined approach to great looking skin comes in!
Have a daily nutrient packed food supplement aimed at providing nutritional support to epithelial cells to assist optimum cell growth and renewal, helping in the battle against the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines associated with aging or menopausal skin. Whilst the supplement provides support from within the uppermost epithelial cells, the ones that we consider our skin can be soothed with our highly absorbing night-time face serum.
